Go Make Disciples of All the Nations

Welcome to the Family Life Chaplaincy Service…. Christ is Risen! Alleluia!

We are now in the next generation of our Family Life Chaplaincy:
Your very own Family Life Chaplain is your parish priest.
To find your parish, go to the Diocese’s website here. Thank you.

The first Family Life Chaplain served almost full time from September 2013 until the end of July 2020. During that time he responded to a variety of calls for service made to the Diocese and, as needed, followed up on these, accompanied a small number of couples and families, responded to requests for service from a few parishes, help to found Montreal’s first English “Team of Our Lady” along with a handful of young couples with their young children, and on occasion served as spiritual advisor for a short time to a number of movements in the Diocese that support Marriage and Family Life. He also helped Bishop Tom to hear confessions at the “Late Sunday Mass” which also began in 2013. We continue to offer this service and the Team of Our Lady continues to thrive.

The Family Life Chaplain was a pastoral project Bishop Thomas Dowd initiated in 2013 as Episcopal Vicar for the English Catholic Faithful and Director of the OEPS – Office for English Pastoral Services – Archidiocese of Montréal. Our current Episcopal Vicar for the English Catholic Faithful and Director of the OEPS is Fr. Raymond Lafontaine.

At the time in 2013 Bishop Tom’s founding concern was to support our parish priests by dedicating an almost full time priest to serve couples and families in the manner of spiritual direction, but for couples and families. He knew how busy parish priests are and hoped that the Family Life Chaplain would in effect complement their own pastoral service to their parishioners and also serve those not yet connected to a parish.
